Inaudible

The second poem I am posting here was chosen for a reason – not aesthetic but ideological. It is called Inaudible and I find it appropriate: as the voices online are growing in number, they are in equal measure diminishing in strength so as to allow for many of us to have ourselves heard. Nonetheless, I do hope there will be power in numbers.

INAUDIBLE
Behind the curtain
A rose is wilting
Under the mask
A frozen tear
And life marches on
Our distant shuffle

Barely audible…

Procrastination

I have often wondered whether our very strengths are at the same time our weaknesses. The answer is in the affirmative. Perhaps this is why we never quite get round to relinquishing our faults as in doing so we would also part with what makes us human and redeems us.

Perfectionism is such a trait and can prevent many of us from venturing forth and making do with what we have or from contributing to the universal dissonance.

We wait and wait till the right moment comes, or the opportunity arises and all the while we have let numerous opportunities slip through our fingers and have repeatedly missed the right moment.

I wrote this poem a few years ago but it more or less encapsulates a lifetime’s procrastination:

 Procrastination

Every day I leave it
Till tomorrow
I’ll find the perfect word
The right turn of phrase
To put into the poem of poems

And days go by
Some place
I’ve never been to
Some place they never let me in
And I hear the same tune
Inside my head

But words are birds
Here today
And there tomorrow
The search becomes in the end
A  fruitless ill-fated quest

The paper innocently blank
The pen poised
The mind boggles
Silence reigns
Better this way
Perhaps…
